About CILT Plus

CILT Plus is a unique community for schools, teachers and languages professionals that has been set up to help inspire and develop language learning across the UK.

As the National Centre for Languages, CILT works with a range of organisations– including the Department for Education– to develop a greater national capacity in languages across all sectors. We are the UK standard-setting body for languages and provide advice, intelligence and other services for the UK Commission for Employment and Skills.

In 2010, with major policy reforms underway, everyone who is involved in language teaching will have an active part to play in ensuring change is managed positively. So, we feel it’s now time to offer responsive, direct services to individuals and schools who want to take a proactive role in developing their language teaching.

As 2010 is the first year of entitlement for languages at Key Stage 2, CILT Plus is launching with a focus on primary languages, but we know that colleagues in secondary will be interested because of their work with primary colleagues.

We remain committed to supporting the key role of the local authority adviser whose work on the ground remains the most effective way for many schools to obtain the support and training they need.

CILT Plus is perfect for the many schools and individuals who want to supplement the support they receive with a ‘direct line’ to CILT, the National Centre for Languages. It’s also ideal for the many schools and individuals who do not benefit from local authority support such as independent schools.

CILT Plus services go beyond CILT’s publicly funded remit and we are very excited about the scheme’s potential for its members.

There are two different ways you could join the CILT Plus community. We look forward to welcoming you.
